The hospital requirements are set so that I can practice veterinary medicine to the best of my ability while at your practice. Please ensure the requirements are met on the days you have me booked for work.
Dental Equipment:
- Digital dental radiography - generator, sensor, and digital software.
- Functioning and maintained dental unit with high-speed drill, slow speed handpiece, scaler, and air/water syringe.
- Prophy paste and Prophy angles
Anesthesia Equipment:
- Anesthesia machine - maintained and pressure checked.
- Multiparameter monitor with ECG, pulse oximetry, blood pressure, and capnography.
- Digital thermometer
- Bair hugger, hotdog warming system, circulating warm water pad or other effective/safe heat support option. Heating pads and warm water bottles are not acceptable options.
- Isofluorane or sevoflourane inhalant anesthesia
- Endotracheal tubes with cuffs -pressure checked
- IV catheter supplies and IV fluid bags
- IV fluid pump
- Laryngoscope
- Endotracheal tube ties
- Eye lubricant
- Oxygen
- Oxygen masks
Medications/Injectables required to be stocked
- Cerenia injectable
- Hydromorphone, oxymorphone, or methadone injectable

Staffing requirements:
- A dedicated technician for anesthesia monitoring.
- Anesthesia charting must be done every 5 minutes throughout the anesthesia procedure.
- The technician should be an RVT/CVT/LVT or have at least 3 years of work experience as a veterinary assistant.
- The assigned technician must have an appropriate training/skill level to complete the day's tasks efficiently and safely. They must be familiar with all anesthesia equipment, anesthesia monitoring equipment, and troubleshooting the dental unit and anesthesia machine.
- Staff must be willing and capable of accepting DVM instructions and responding to any anesthesia concerns.
- The assigned staff members must be flexible and prepared to use protocols and techniques for anesthesia and dentistry that may be different than what they are used to.
- Staff must be proficient at scaling and polishing.
- Staff must stay with all anesthesia patients until extubated and able to lift their heads on their own.
- Staff must be capable of IV catheter placement for all anesthesia patients.
